All rehabilitation patients now at St Ewolds

All rehabilitation patients and staff from Samares Ward at Overdale have now moved to the new location at St Ewold’s on Trinity Hill.
The new rehabilitation facility has 20 en-suite rooms in part of a residential home owned by the parish of St Helier. It is in a peaceful area surrounded by woodland on one side and a secure, sheltered garden on the other. Anyone who has visited the new Samares at St Ewolds has come away with the feeling that this is even better than the much-loved and much-praised Samares Ward at Overdale.

Its bedrooms all have lovely views looking over greenery or the rooftops of St Helier and its central services, such as lounge and dining facilities, all give off a feeling of tranquility, calm and reassurance. It is easily accessible by public transport, with a bus stop near the entrance just up from Waitrose on Trinity Hill. From there it is a short walk to the building. There are also about 40 parking places at the back of the building.

The relocation this week of all patients and staff to St Ewolds completes the removal of the last outpatient services from the old Overdale hospital site. This is now boarded off and inaccessible to all but the demolition crews. Concept plans for the new acute hospital to be built on the
Overdale site are now available and public comments are invited until 4th June.

The detailed functional brief for the new acute hospital at Overdale and a new Planning Application are scheduled for the summer. The new building, which will be an acute hospital rather than an all-in-one general hospital as initially envisaged, will be about 45,000 square metres, very much smaller than the 75,000 square meters of the previous plans. It will be set around a central core and is already described as “a hospital with a heart”.

It is hope that Planning Approval and approximately £800m in financing will be approved this summer. In which case construction could begin next year and be completed in 2028. For more details Click Here
